Is it race or is it the Money?
Society has all types of labels for each other, a person can be known by just their ethnicity or how wealthy they are. I believe a person's ethnicity and how much money they make is such a big deal. Ethnicity has been a very long conflict in this nation, labeling people by their race has create such a division and differences among people. People are so stuck on stereotyping each other that it creates such dispute with one another. Money will always be another big issue in the United States. It is ridiculous that one person in this world takes home 40% of the nation's money. It takes many months for an average American to make the same amount as the wealthiest guy in the world in one hour. It's not surprising that America has 54 trillion dollars on the 2009 but yet, the percentage rate of homeless people increases every year. I believe that it is both race and money that has caused such big dispute and division in this nation.

The Underdog by The Coup
In the piece Underdog by Coup, he openly speaks his mind about his Folkers and their struggles and hardships they encounter on a daily bases. An Underdog is a group or person that has such little chances of fighting or winning. The "Underdogs" Boots was referring to are the middle/lower class people who barely have a say or fight in this society. The "They" are the rich and ones with power which is the government. I believe the part that had great significance to me was "Coming home don't never seem to be a celebration, Bills, they poled up on the coffee table like they're decorations, Big ol' spoons of peanut butter, big ass glass of water, Makes the hunger subside, save the real food for your daughter." Even though a person works many days with long hours throughout the week, sometimes it's not enough. On their days off, instead of relaxing and catching up on getting rest they're stressing over how are they going to pay rent or how are they going to provide for their families.
"You feel like swingin' haymakers at a moving truck, You feel like laughing so seem like like you don"t give a fuck, You feel like getting so high, you smoke a whole damn crop, You feel like crying but you think that you might never stop" It's sad to be in a situation where you've reach your breaking point in life, especially for those who do not days off and it's still difficult for them to get buy. This is significant to me because United States does not try to decrease the percentage of homeless people or families on the street but yet, they try to sell this idea on television to send money to this organization to help end hunger and poverty in different countries or animal abuse. It's ridiculous because we have young girls selling their bodies and young boys selling dope on the streets just to get by, where is the government? Where is this power that they use to intimidate the people below them? If the government has so much power, why are issues that started years ago keep getting worse as the years go by?

Recycling The gift
In the Recycling The gift, there were many concepts and ideas about life and education that I strongly agreed with. The first point that really stuck out to me was when, "Jeff Duncan- Andrade explained that "...schooling is a processing of institutionalizing people to prepare them enter into society and never shake things up; education is the process by which by which people learn first, to understand themselves, their own value, their own historical place in the world. But if you try to fit them as widgets in a current economic sets need, it's ridiculous." I believe school does not encourage students enough, I believe through out the years I have been attending High school, education does not focus on what's best for the students, instead they focus on meeting the criteria. I think education should also teach students how to be comfortable with themselves and how to feel safe. From the years of five until eighteen most of our time has been in school, and I believe the school does not reach out and just let students know that we all matter. Instead students pick up bad habits, for instants the lessons we learn in school is not appealing, that instead of understanding what's being taught we're just memorizing until we no longer need it.
In the middle of the film Kate O'Neil said, "Education in some ways prepares you not for a creative fulfilled life, but to be able to sit in an office or in a cubicle 8 hours a day." I agree with what Kate's opinion on education, because we basically go to school to get in a job that we're not really happy with. Or we go to school to get a job that pays for all the school loans we owe. I believe that education does not teach students on how to find a job that they're passionate about, instead people have jobs they do not actually enjoy we just endure it. We go to school to learn about how to do a certain job and begin to live the same life everyday, almost like a robot.
In the film, Carmen Johnson says "One of the challenges with education is that it does seem like there are these two paths that you can go: you can either be robot or be a human... And there is also the chance that the institution itself doesn't really support human" Throughout my years in High school teachers and counselors pushed students that we need to go to college and college is a key to a successful life. If United States education pushes us to go to college why does the cost of education ridiculously expensive? Many people who completed college and have a career are not happy, because they are working their butts off to pay their six figure schools loans. I think education plays a big role in humans lives, and if it does not change, our future is at risk.

Bring on the learning revolution response
In the Film, Ken Robinson: Bring on the revolution of learning, it discussed many strong concepts on the improvement of education. The first concept that stuck me was when Robinson was explaining that instead of evolution in learning their should be revolution. I agree with what he was saying, education is being reformed with a broken model which causes humans to not recognize their talents and put them to use, or test their intelligence to see what they are capable of. I believe it is true that there are two kinds of people in the world. Many people in the world are not happy with that they do, and instead of enjoying life they just endure it. There are those who are passionate about what they do, and enjoy life. Talent has diversity, just like what Robinson was explaining that humans should do things that makes your spirit happy or excited and that we should be passionate about what we do. I strongly agree with the concept about how we should do something where it makes an hour feel like five minutes, instead of five minutes feeling like a hour.
Another concept that really struck me, was when Robinson shared that people over twenty five wear wristwatches because they were born in a pre-digital time, and if you were to look at teenagers now they do not wear watches, because they were born into a digital generation. I believe that is one of the big issues now. Since the younger generation were born into smart phones, ipads, social media, and new and improved computers, it causes them to be in a bubble instead of exploring what's outside of the screen. For instance, there are five year olds that know how to use an ipad insteading knowing how to play board games, pr rather than playing outside with other kids. This causes many issues, for one, the younger generation will grow up not knowing how to physically interact with people face to face. Also, people are very addicted to using their social media that you can find out what a person is doing or who they are by just looking up that person's facebook or instagram profile. That creates another issue because when people go out in public they do not know what to conversate about because it's already right in front of you on the social media.
I also like the idea that humans should live an organic lifestyle rather than a linear lifestyle. We should be able to customize our own ways or creating our own solutions.

The Function of Education
In The Function of Education by Jiddu Krishnamurti, it had many questions based on education. One of the major questions Krishnamurti asked was, do we ever question ourselves what does education mean to us. I personally believe that education is a benefit for a person's future, it can prepare you on certain aspects of life but it can not teach you how to live a life. I think education can be an asset because it can help you exercise or recognize your intelligence and further your skills. Society tries to enforce the idea on the young minds that if we do not go to college that we will be stuck with a job that we are not happy with. But I also believe that sometimes you do not need an education to achieve a certain goal in life, because there are some people in the world who are wealthy and successful who did not go to college or finished school. I think education can go so far about life, but I believe that how to live a life can not be taught, life is lived through experiences.
I think life is full of surprises, you never know what is to expect. I agree with what Krishnamurti that life is extraordinary and Life is poor and rich, different types of religion, ambitions, fears, anxieties, passion and fulfillments. Also, and that the idea of life is to pass examination, find jobs, get married, have children, and become more and more like machines. I feel that is the affect education has on people which is that sometimes some people are too busy trying to make a living that they forget to how to live. I also agree with what Krishnamurti is discussing when he says "...you will get married, and before you know where you are you will be mothers and fathers; and you will then be tied to a job, or to the kitchen, in which you will gradually wither away." I agree with what was being said because I think if you do the same routine with life, we ask ourselves do we really enjoy life? Or is that what we really want?
I believe intelligence is not based on how good you are in school, I think there are people who are book smart and street smart, or naturally gifted. Education helps you extend your skills or even recognize what you are capable of doing. I also strongly agree when Krishnamurti says that it is important for the young ones to live in an environment where there is no fear because it will help in the future to prevent us from being afraid of living life or judgement. I also believe life is beautiful, having a life is freedom, what we make of it is even better. Life is about taking risk and ignoring the fear, doubts and insecurities because once a person is able to embrace all of that they are capable of doing anything they set their minds to.

About me
My name is Ann Daynelle Navarro, but I prefer Ann. I graduated high school June 2014, from James Logan High school. This is my first year attending Chabot, and so far I love and enjoy college. I am the second oldest of three, I have a younger sister and we are about ten years apart. I do my best to set a good example, I go to school full time and work part time. I am 18 years old but I don't believe i'll ever grow out of enjoying watching and reading DC comics or watching Marvel movies. I am a big fan of superheros. Finishing school and graduating with a career that I am passionate about is one of my major goals. I plan to attend Chabot for about three years and receive my AA degree and transfer to University of Davis and pursue a career as a Veterinarian. But I am also a bit undecided because there is another field of work I am thinking about pursuing, which is a Health Major. In high school I took a class called Peers In Action and was a part of this program called Youth advisory Board. In Youth Advisory Board our purpose was to promote and educate Youth on health. In Peers in Action it was a class for peer support for teengers that prevented, abuse, drug abuse and suicide. I believe after being a part of those two programs has transformed my thought process and it changed me to become open minded. I would love to have a career that has a positive change on society or people. English is one of my favorite subjects because I enjoy having a class made to discuss about certain subjects, and express your thoughts and opinions. Also the feeling of being heard and acknowledged, is why I enjoy English. I think some of my personal goals in life is to pursue a career that I am passionate about because having a job and a career are two different things. A career is something you enjoy doing and a job is just something that helps you get by.
I think my last personal goal is bit vague but I believe it's a goal for myself, and it's just be happy and enjoy life. I've learn that life will throw you things left and right, maybe even at the same time. But you either let is take over you and stop living or let it subside and keeping living. Learn from your mistakes and don't make the same mistakes twice or there is no growth.
